This secluded spot in Gleann Duibh was discovered during a long walk in Acharn forrest in the hills to the south of Killin. The river winds and tumbles over the rocks in its downwards rush and, just after this spot, passes under an old viaduct which used to carry the railway to Killin Station. The old railway route is now used as a cycle track.

This view was captured during a cycle run while on holiday at Onich on Loch Linnhe. We had crossed to Ardgour on the Corran Ferry and followed the coast road southwards. The road bridged the river Gour just before it joined Loch Linnhe with this lovely view opening up towards the head of the glen.

Original acrylic painting on box canvas; all canvas edges are painted, hence no framing required. White calla lilies set against a soft background of deep blues, greens, mauves and paler yellow-greens with touches of muted orange. The ripple-edged leaves are painted with with glazes of red-purple, magenta and opaque greens; with deeper purples in the shadowed areas. Thicker paint is used for the white flowers, to force a contrast between light and dark. Detail is fairly minimal except for the central spathes of the lilies which are dotted with yellow, orange and green acrylic paint.

I was fascinated by the colours and shapes of all the rooftops and felt that a painting would have an almost abstract quality. This is a view of Lower Largo harbour at low tide. The small harbour, now virtually empty, was once home to 36 herring boats, employing around 80 people but is nowadays mainly used as a berth for leisure craft. Lower Largo is the birthplace of Alexander Selkirk who wrote the famous novel Robinson Crusoe. A statue at 101 Main Street marks the thatched cottage where he was born. The son of a shoemaker, he left for a life at sea. After a quarrel with the captain of the ship he was put ashore for four lonely years on the deserted island of Juan Fernandez.

While the boats in the harbour are virtually high and dry for the time being, the yachts in the Firth of Forth beyond are enjoying their freedom.
